For once a positive story coming out of Pakistan about UAS, or ‘killer drones’ as they are normally referred to in the local press…. The NUST Science Society at the School of Chemical and Materials Engineering in Islamabad recently organised a technical talk on ‘UAS — An Overview of Various Technological Systems’ which discussed not only the technical aspects of UAS, but also emphasised the positive non-military applications.
“Agricultural, environmental and meteorological applications of UAS have been a focus of NASA and had been producing results on cheaper than satellite surveillance system”, Fahad Aman Khan told the audience of over 100. Later, Miss Amina Malik talked about design frames, power requirements, avionics, design and manufacturing of UAS.
Fahad Aman Khan and Miss Amina Malik are Design Engineers from SATUMA (Surveillance and Target Unmanned Aircraft. Both carry a remarkable academic record and were recipients of National Youth Award from Ministry of Youth Affairs in Science and Technology and of postgraduate scholarships for Joint European Masters and Cranfield University, UK respectively.
Dr. Mohammad Mujahid, faculty advisor of the NUST Science Society, organised the event, which is a regular feature of NUST Science Society which includes guest speaker session (s) by motivated engineers, young scientists and researchers in the scientific fields of interest.
