An MQ-9 Reaper has crashed on landing at the Holloman Air Force Base in southern New Mexico. Base officials say the unmanned aircraft was on a training mission when it crashed around 9:15 a.m. Saturday.
Officials with the base’s 49th Wing say the Reaper was damaged, but nobody on the ground was injured and no private property was damaged. The aircraft was assigned to the 29th Attack Squadron, which is part of the Holloman’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft Flying Training Unit. A board will be convened to investigate the cause of the crash.
Several MQ-9 Reapers and MQ-1 Predator aircraft have crashed at the base during training missions since 2009.
