A Shadow unmanned aircraft had an equipment emergency last Wednesday morning, causing its recovery parachute to successfully deploy and eventually bring the aircraft down on private property west of Fort Huachuca, according to the installation’s spokeswoman.
There was no environmental damage, no fire and no injuries to anyone on the ground, Tanja Linton said. The fort is the Army’s major training area for a number of pilotless planes, conducted by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Training Battalion, which is part of the Army Aviation Center of Excellence at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Linton said the incident is being investigated.
