Azerbaijan Defence Industry Minister, Yavar Jamalov, announced at IDEF-2011 in Istanbul that the Defence Industry Ministry of Azerbaijan plans to produce 60 unmanned aircraft by the end of the year.
“A UAS producing plant has been launched. The plant produces two types of unmanned aircraft. The Ministry has placed an order this year. Sixty unmanned aircraft will be produced and commissioned this year,” the minister said.
The minister also spoke of products manufactured based on the protocol on production of defence products signed between Turkish companies and the Ministry of Defence Industry of Azerbaijan.
“An agreement has been reached to jointly produce weapons with Turkey and sniper rifles with a calibre of 12.17 mm in Azerbaijan. This project will be implemented in the near future. We have signed a protocol with Turkish companies Aselsan, Roketsan on joint production of some products, including 122 mm rockets, night vision equipment. ”
Noting the success of Azerbaijan in the sphere of defence industry, Yavar Jamalov said that of military products displayed in exhibitions have grown three-fold in two years. “We have presented 89 items of defence products in an international exhibition in Istanbul. This is great progress. Some 27 products were exhibited in 2009 for the first time at İDEF,” the minister continued.
