Beijing Police plan to purchase unmanned aircraft to monitor emergency situations such as traffic accidents, a top official has said.
The unmanned aircraft may be used to monitor traffic accidents, conduct aerial surveillance or help with rescue operations, said Jia Shengwen of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Authorities would inspect drones at an upcoming anti-terror equipment exhibition, Xinhua reported.
Jia said the drones would be on display at the China International Exhibition on Police Equipment and Anti-terrorism Technology and Equipment to be held in Beijing May 19-21. Beijing Police have been revamping and modernising their equipment to beef up the Chinese capital’s security since the 2008 Olympic Games.
