Circino Flight Systems submitted a 3-year old video of its ‘Sentry’ Olecopter which tries to satisfy a number of problems with UAV’s – combine VTOL performance with high speed in forward flight.A scaled down version (7 feet) of the airframe has been made, has been ground tested and a newer enhanced performance airframe is being built. For the UAVForge competition this machine will need designing to a smaller “BACK-PACKABLE” design. This will be achieved with the use a tube-launched system for the smaller design.
Power is deemed to be ample: 17Kgs Max weight and 36Kg thrust. Yaw control in VTOL mode is difficult with wings deployed but the designers have been looking at a switch blade wing design to reduce VTOL yaw.
