The Managing Director of the company that built the aircraft, Ehsan Rahmanian, said: “The aircraft enjoys a high potentiality and can carry out various military and non-military missions including patrolling, reconnaissance and monitoring woods and pastures.”
“It is named “Shir Dal”. It is taken from a mythological creature in Persepolis with the body of a lion, head of an eagle and the ears of a horse.” Saying the aircraft weighs 30 kg, he added, “It is completely unique and is built locally. We have built two examples so far and for the time being we are in the stage of autopilot installing systems and the flight tests.”
He added, “We are able to produce the vehicle in a vast number. We are willing to build them in larger sizes and in this regard we are signing contracts with different military and non-military centres.”
“The final cost for the Shir Dal multipurpose UAS would be about $ 50,000” he continued.
[Last week we ran a similar story about a smaller, 12kg student-built aircraft. – Ed.]
