King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, said Arabia is to enter unmanned aircraft systems technology with the signing of an agreement with Japan’s Tokai University, Tokyo and the British Cranfield University.The agreement is to design and build UAS powered by solar energy. The signing ceremony took place at the KAU campus in the presence of President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation, Prince Fahd bin Abdullah.
KAU President Osama Tayyib said the project led by the university would take pioneering steps in the manufacture of aircraft in addition to advanced studies in aviation and control systems. “The project would contribute to the transfer and indigenization of drone design and manufacture technology and also construction of an advanced laboratory for solar energy research besides training engineers and researchers,” Tayyib said.
