Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will be hosting an Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Community Forum on Thursday, March 8, 2012, from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at its Prescott campus. During the presentation, Embry-Riddle will share its plans to properly educate and train future generations of UAS users.
Earlier this year, Congress passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 which included a mandate for full integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems into the National Airspace System by September 2015. Embry-Riddle is researching implementation procedures for effectiveness, training, and safety for UAS programs.
This is the second UAS event hosted by Embry-Riddle Prescott. In September 2011, the campus hosted the “Shared Vision for UAS in Arizona” Symposium, which drew more than 140 attendees from the State of Arizona.
The public is encouraged to attend this event and learn about Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Embry-Riddle’s plans. Discussion topics will include:
- Emerging legislation and projected regulatory developments in UAS
- UAS technology/capabilities and anticipated civil applications
- Embry-Riddle UAS programmes, research and future Interests
- Review of local operating areas proposed for UAS
- Public/Student awareness and education
- Educating users/students in safe and responsible operation
- Awareness of privacy and safety issues
