Defense Research Associates, Inc. (DRA), a small, veteran-owned company, has been awarded a $5 million small business contract for the U.S. Air Force as an ongoing effort to develop and demonstrate technology to prevent mid-air collisions between aircraft.
This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative contract value up to $7.4 million. The Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base awarded the 18-month effort to Defense Research Associates, Inc. with a portion of funding support provided by the Aeronautical Systems Center.
The U.S. Air Force and DRA began developing the Sense and Avoid technology in 2005. The objective of this program is to mature technology in support of performing safe separation and collision avoidance on USAF unmanned aircraft either automatically or through the remote pilot. This programme will create/retain as many as 25 jobs at DRA.
