Scion UAS has introduced a new line of VTOL UAS, starting with the SA-100 “Mink” and the SA-200 “Weasel”.
Scion UAS is focused on developing and delivering vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial systems. Founded in 2011, the company brings together expertise in advanced aerospace composite manufacturing and state-of-the-art control systems to create complete unmanned systems that are unrivaled in price and performance.
Mink
Why VTOL? One major difficulty with unmanned systems is launch and recovery. A VTOL system requires only a small open area to take off or land, thus making it ideally suited for ship-based operations or any mission profile where a large runway is not feasible.
Weasel
The company’s manufacturing facility was designed from the ground up to produce FAA-certified manned aircraft. Scion is leading the industry by exclusively using autoclave-cured, pre-impregnated carbon fiber for small UAS. Safety and reliability are not just important, they are essential qualities as we move towards having unmanned systems join our National Airspace.
