Japanese security firm Secom announced that it has developed a prototype UAS that it intends to develop as part of the home security services that it provides for its customers.
The UAS, which is autonomous rather than remote controlled, is based on a quadrocopter design. It would be equipped with a small security camera and be capable of calling the police. If a customers’ alarm system indicates an intruder, the UAS could be deployed to record the intruders in the process of breaking in. It would also be able to make a determination as to whether the police should be called.
The robot will carry a laser sensor, camera, communication device, computer, and LED lamps among others, measuring around 80cm in diameter while tipping the scale at 1.6kg. It has a battery reserve that allows it to fly non-stop for approximately 15 minutes
“The flying robot could take off if our online security systems detect any unauthorised entry,” spokeswoman Asuka Saito said. “It would enable us to quickly check out what’s actually happening on the spot.”
The company hopes to be able to offer them to its customers for rent in April of 2014 for about 5,000 yen ($58) a month.

One of the first aspects of a home security camera to consider is whether you will use a wireless home security system or one that requires connection to a power source. There are many security camera options that are wireless. This means the camera does not need to be connected to an external power supply and there is no need for wires. However, the camera still requires a source of power which is often an internal battery. A wireless home security camera may be easier to install because there is no wiring but it can be more difficult to maintain because the batteries may need to be replaced or recharged frequently.*;..”
