JARUS Information and Dissemination Workshop

The First JARUS Information and Dissemination Workshop took place on December 6, 2012 and was kindly hosted by EUROCONTROL in Brussels.

Around 55 representatives of industry, research establishments, aviation authorities and other stakeholders from the unmanned aircraft community participated and contributed to the successful workshop.

During the day, the JARUS consultation and comment process was presented and explained. In the morning the JARUS working group on Airworthiness presented their first deliverable, a set of airworthiness requirements for Light Unmanned Rotorcraft Systems, CS-LURS. Following the presentation, questions on this deliverable were answered during a period of open discussion. The presentation also marked the start of a comment period on this deliverable, which will last until the end of February 2013.

In the afternoon, the System Safety group presented the concepts behind their work on AMC UAS.1309, a paper that sets out possible means and methodologies of demonstrating acceptable levels of systems safety for unnamed aircraft systems During some lively debate these concepts were extensively discussed and the System Safety group agreed to take the comments provided into consideration while preparing their final draft version.

The next JARUS workshop has not been planned yet, but is expected to take place before the summer of 2013.

JARUS is a worldwide group of experts from National Aviation Authorities (NAAs), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Eurocontrol.
