Tasuma UK Ltd. has recently supplied to UAV Engines Ltd, UK. a full sized blended wing body UAS for testing and ratification with the AR731 rotary engine.
The model was built to full size dimensions, but with the wings clipped down from 5 metres to 3 metres , in order to fit the tunnel. The Tunnel commissioned for these tests was the Airbus High Speed (230 kph) at the establishment at Filton, Bristol UK.
Preliminary structural tests showed that at 3 degrees angle of attack the lifting force generated by the simulated airvehicle was of the order of ¼ tonne.
The experimental procedures involved running the motor at differing RPM at a series of wind tunnel speeds between 60 kph and 230 kph evaluating thrust and fuel consumption. This was then repeated for different sizes and makes of propellers.
