Saab is poised to secure a launch order for its Skeldar unmanned aircraft system, with an undisclosed operator.
Speaking at the Paris Air Show, Saab Head of Aeronautics Lennart Sindahl said: “We are looking forward to signing the first contract [for the Skeldar] within a very few weeks.”
With a maximum take-off weight of about 230kg (500lb), including a 40kg sensor payload, the vertical take-off and landing system offers an operating endurance of around 5h.
Saab has carried out extensive development trials with the type during the past several years, including deck-based flights performed from surface ships.
