Michael Bailey of UAV Vision Australia, went to the Oscars with Hovercam’s Philip George and Gifford Hooper who have been awarded the scientific and technical achievement award for their Helicam, a remotely operated Helicopter equipped with 35mm film cameras or even the Red Epic.
The Scientific and Technical awards presentation took place on February the 15th in Beverly Hills California.
Michael Bailey, who founded UAV Vision in 2006, spent 10 years with Hovercam as their Chief Design and development Engineer. His main achievement was the design of the Gas Turbine powered Helicam, which is still in operation today. Furthermore he played a crucial role on many high profile feature film shoots as the Camera operator, Pilot and Steadicam operator.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 19 scientific and technical achievements were honoured at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards presentation on Saturday, Feb. 15.
To Gifford Hooper and Philip George of HoverCam for the continuing development of the Helicam miniature helicopter camera system.
The current Helicam system is a high-speed, extremely manoeuvrable, turbine-engine, radio-controlled miniature helicopter that supports professional film and digital cinema cameras. Helicam provides a wide range of stabilized, remotely operated pan, tilt and roll capabilities, achieving shots impossible for full-size helicopters.
