skygraphics AG has been working several years on the development of a family of parachute systems for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) to allow the UAV to land without a runway or net recovery system; and to also provide rescue operation to protect the UAV and payload under emergency situations.
The technology used in the ProtectUAVTM product is based on skygraphics’ long lasting experience in the development and production of rescue systems for paragliders. It is already successfully used in Europe by several UAV companies and is now available to the North American market through UAV Propulsion Tech, skygraphics’ new US representative.
ProtectUAVTM will allow the UAV to land safely after conclusion of the mission, or during an out-of- control emergency situation. This solution will protect the UAV and payload from damage as well as minimize the potential damage to people or property on the ground. The system is fully scalable for UAV’s (fixed wing, helicopter and multi-copters) from 20-200 kg Maximum Take-Of Weight, is smaller and lighter than other solutions on the market and is also re-useable (10+ deployments).
skygraphics’ CEO, Frank Biburger, said, “Adding UAV Propulsion Tech as the North American representative for skygraphics will expand our lightweight/compact rescue/recovery systems into the growing US UAV market”. Bob Schmidt, President of UAV Propulsion Tech said, “I am excited about being able to offer this new product that will allow UAV customers to protect their assets in theater as well as in commercial applications as the FAA opens up civilian use”.
skygraphics AG is a privately held German company formed in 2004. It has grown into European’s largest manufacturer of aerial-advertising equipment and is a developer of special solutions in General Aviation as well as rescue/recover parachute solutions for UAV’s.
UAV Propulsion Tech is a privately held US company that represents several companies from Germany and Australia that provide UAV solutions to the US market. Products include propulsion, servo and rescue/recovery parachutes that are being used on several high end UAV applications.
