and Ajman Civil Defence signed an agreement for a unique initiative. ACF called for 5 selected students of AUST Engineering College to design and build a drone. The successful handover of the “Civil Defence Support Drone” to Ajman Civil Defence was completed recently.
The drone is developed to assist in fire-fighting in high-rise buildings by providing real-time video and audio information to the base station. It can also assist rescue teams in other emergency situations such as helping drowning victims as well as tracking objects in deserted areas. The drone has complete auto-pilot capability with smooth take-off and landing. It can be dispatched to specified location using on-board GPS and can stream live video and audio of the incident scene to the base station. A Windows phone application was also developed to receive the video, audio, and GPS information. The testing of the drone was successfully carried out at the Headquarter of Ajman Civil Defence.
AUST students have gained tremendous knowledge in the fields of hardware, software, programming and wireless communication technology. The parameters required were provided by the Civil Defence and the prototype features comprehensive operation as a Support Drone. It was developed by five AUST students, namely Shahin Basiratzadeh, Mateen Tahseen, Masoud Dorrikhteh, Abdullah Shapsough, and Ali Hamid. The project was supervised by Prof. Mustahsan Mir, Head of Electrical Engineering Department who firmly believes that the “drones are the future”.
Prof. Fahar Hayati, Dean of College of Engineering, provided full support and guidance to ensure that the project is successfully completed and delivered to Ajman Civil Defence. He congratulated the participating students for their accomplishment and expressed his pride. “It gives us immense joy to see our students achieve something on a national level. Some of these students will be graduates of “Thank You, Khalifa” Class of 2014 and to be able to draw inspiration from national initiatives and produce a drone that will serve the community is the epic culmination of our mission”, AUST dean said.
