There will be restrictions on the flying of unmanned aircraft during the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said on Tuesday (Sep 16). The flying of unmanned aircraft will be prohibited within and into restricted areas for the following periods:
- Sep 18, 12pm to Sep 19, 2am
- Sep 19, 12pm to Sep 20, 2am
- Sep 20, 12pm to Sep 21, 2am
- Sep 21, 12pm to midnight
The restrictions will cover a significant area around the race site including Queenstown, Telok Blangah, Toa Payoh, Kallang, Orchard, Marine Parade and Aljunied.
The islands of Sentosa and Brani will also be off-limits, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
The move is meant to ensure the safety of the public, as well as helicopters which will be conducting low-level flights for aerial filming of the race, CAAS said.
The flying of unmanned aircraft within and into a restricted area is an offence. Offenders can be fined up to S$20,000, and repeat offenders can be fined up to S$40,000 and imprisoned for up to 15 months.
