L-3 Southern California Microwave
(L-3 SCM) has announced that it has been selected by Lockheed Martin’s Mission Systems and Training (LM MST) business to provide its MICRO Secure Digital Data Link (MICRO SDDL) as the secure command & control and ISR communications backbone for the U.K. Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) digital Desert Hawk III DDL small unmanned aircraft system (SUAS) platform.
The MICRO SDDL transceivers enable optimal utilisation of frequency spectrum through a single RF channel supporting an IP-based, bidirectional TDMA secure communications link.
“After extensive evaluation of available wireless communication systems, we selected the MICRO SDDL for its performance and versatility to meet program requirements for our digital Desert Hawk III DDL SUAS offering to the U.K. MOD,” said Kevin Westfall, director of LM MST’s Unmanned Solutions business area. “Previous experience with L-3 products, services and support for the Desert Hawk III program made its selection an obvious choice. We have extreme confidence in this solution.”
“L-3 is proud to be once again selected to provide communications support for this MOD program. Our MICRO SDDL is a very flexible, reliable and robust wireless communications system that meets the demanding performance requirements of SUAS systems such as the Desert Hawk III DDL,” said Dennis Burman, director of business development at L-3 SCM. “We look forward to extending our record of proven performance on this platform, which began with our analog communications solutions.”
