European Commission to Announce RPAS Policy & Strategy

European-Commission

The European Commission’s High Level RPAS Conference will take place in Riga, Latvia on 5 & 6 March 2015. It is being hosted by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), and is being attended by European Commission representatives, EU national Ministers of Transport, Directors General of EU national aviation authorities, European parliamentarians, Data Protection Authorities, and high level industry representatives.

This conference should be seen in the context of the European Commission’s Communication 2014-207 of April 2014 (A New era for aviation – Opening the aviation market to the civil use of remotely piloted aircraft systems in a safe and sustainable manner).

At this conference the European aviation community will exchange views on how, and under what conditions, RPAS (drones) can help create promising new opportunities in Europe, offer sustainable jobs and new prospects for growth in the manufacturing and aerial work supplying sectors. At the conclusion of the conference the “Riga Declaration” will be made public. The Riga declaration will announce the EU’s projected way ahead relative to the rapid insertion of civil RPAS into European airspace, and how this will be accomplished. The Riga Declaration, which reflects the European Commission’s RPAS strategy, will be disseminated by UVS International to the global RPAS community.

UVS International has been invited to attend this event and will be participating with a delegation of 25 persons (including representatives of the European national RPAS associations); it has assisted with the establishment of the conference programme and the organisation of the flight demonstrations, which will take place on the first day of the event.
