August 1st marks the beta release of Zephyr, a drone training simulator that is uniquely designed for drone training and education developed by Little Arms Studios. The intent of Zephyr is to be the drone operator training tool educators want, combining accurate flight models and physics with a built in Learning Management System that tracks the pilot’s progress.
All of this means Zephyr gives both instructors and institutions a variety of tools to help provide precise instruction by adapting and improving the quality of teaching.
“We chose to release Zephyr in a beta state so we could have all the drone operators try it out and give us feedback on what’s good, and what we can do better,” said Kyle Bishop, CEO of Little Arms Studios. “Our team is constantly reaching out globally to both schools and industry professionals across all the different uses of drones to find out what they need to practice their jobs.”
Zephyr stands alone among other drone simulations because it was purposefully designed around drone pilot education and training. Zephyr comes with a built in classroom management and student progress tracking tools, allowing the educator to track the progress that students make while they use the simulator. An instructor can leverage these tools to see how often a student crashes their drone and see if the students has improved over time or if they need more instruction.
According to Business Insider, the drone market potential is expected to exceed $12 billion in 2021, which includes consumer, enterprise, and governmental drone use. The use of drone operators in many commercial industries is also expected to expand as more uses for drones are discovered and implemented across those industries. All of this means that the need for professionally trained drone operators will continue to increase, and Zephyr is specifically designed to prepare operators for these growing industries.
“We have a really great team, and the amount we have accomplished in the last six months, and the four and a half years prior, is pretty tremendous,” Bishop says, “I am proud of the fact that we started as a small team just out of college, and how we accomplished so much in such a short timespan.”
