Both international and local companies are already positioning themselves to respond to the inevitable UAS tenders that will surface over the next few years. Polish UAS speciailists Flytronic, part of the WB Group, is just one of those companies. At this year’s MSPO in Kielce, Poland, it has unveiled a new medium-range UAS system called the Łoś. The catapult-launched UAS has been designed specifically with Polish military requirements in mind.
In terms of payloads, the UAS can be fitted with an EO/IR turret that is also developed by Flytronic. Communications intelligence (COMINT) and electronic intelligence (ELINT) payloads are also options for potential customers.
The UAS manufacturer has chosen a two-engine configuration, which it says increases reliability and offers some redundancy in case of an engine failure.
Flytronic manufacture a number of UAS systems including small hand-launched aircraft as well as a large flying-wing UAS called Mantha that has vertical landing and take-off capabilities.
Poland has plans to acquire a number of UAS across different classes from small up to large MALE-class UAS.
