Indianapolis-based Ocelleye LLC, a commercial drone operator in North America, has released its UAV Landing Zone for vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) weighing under 25 pounds.
The UAV Landing Zone, developed over the course of a year, was tested in conjunction with Ocelleye’s day-to-day operations.
The UAV Landing Zone,is a highly portable platform from which to operate helicopters and multi-rotors weighing under 25 pounds. It provides a stable platform that the pilot can use to set up and inspect the aircraft prior to flight.
By elevating the aircraft off the ground, pilots don’t have to worry about setting their valuable aircraft on wet conditions, in tall grass, or on dusty or debris cluttered ground. No more fears of dirt or moisture on your camera lens or debris in the camera gimbals or motors.
“The UAV Landing Zone provides an elevated platform to support the drone during the setup and arming phases and then allows for a safe takeoff away from the dust and debris normally encountered on a construction site,” says Greg Sherwin, president of Ocelleye LLC.
During landings, the mesh surface allows prop wash to pass through eliminating the bouncing effect caused to autopilots being induced by ground effect pressure differences. The frame of the landing surface has just the right amount of flex to provide some cushion should the landing be a little on the hard side.
When deployed, the UAV Landing Zone measures 32” x 32” x 24” high and collapses to a 36” long by 3.5” diameter for transport and storage. Each unit is equipped with a reusable, protective carrying case.
