has a range of versatile solutions from the world’s most compact to the highest performance Inmarsat terminals. At the Singapore Air Show, Cobham demonstrates the flexibility of its exclusive product range by showcasing the AVIATOR UAV 200.
As the world’s smallest and lightest Inmarsat UAV satcom solution, the AVIATOR UAV 200 system weighs just 1.45kg, which is 76 per cent lighter than existing comparable products on the market. Offering internet connectivity for smaller airframes or Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (TUAVs), it integrates all components into one compact lightweight unit and delivers Inmarsat Class 4 SwiftBroadband services in a low-SWAP package.
The cost-effective solution has been introduced by Cobham to significantly enhance a UAV’s performance, range and payload capability by enabling operators to take advantage of the higher speed connectivity from today’s satellite networks without all the bulk. Providing several benefits for these widely-used aircraft for the first time, the AVIATOR UAV system offers near real-time data streaming of surveillance footage and data, as well as capacity for enhanced aircraft control and health monitoring Beyond the Line Of Sight (BLOS). The satcom terminal recently passed video footage during independent work with AnsuR Technologies and Barnard Microsystems, evidence of its significant value and strategic enhancement for BLOS UAV operational scenarios.
Andrew Legg, Regional Sales Director, APAC, Cobham SATCOM, said:
“Miniaturisation is so important for the satcom market right now, and it’s something that we’re really good at here at Cobham. The AVIATOR UAV 200 is so exciting because it will make a huge difference to operational flexibility in a number of applications, such as military, border security enforcement, public safety, commercial use and scientific research. Until now, the size, weight and power requirements of Inmarsat satcom hardware were too restrictive for smaller UAVs which depend upon lightweight components to maximize range, endurance and operational use. AVIATOR UAV 200 matches the connectivity and performance of larger, class-leading satcom systems, but in a far smaller, lighter and less power-demanding package.
“By highlighting this tiny system alongside the next-gen AVIATOR S, we can fully demonstrate the diverse range of innovative satcom solutions that we are able to offer our customers, from the revolutionary solution for tactical UAVs to our systems designed to meet the future needs of the aviation industry.”
Cobham SATCOM is also highlighting its 4-channel SwiftBroadband AVIATOR 1600SP satcom system for use in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). Cobham’s Special Purpose systems are developed for special applications or customers with specific requirements such as multichannel for expanded bandwidth requirements and special extended qualifications for temperature, vibration and unpressurized environments.
The ground-breaking AVIATOR S Series is also on show at Singapore where Cobham’s specialists will be on hand to explain the future of the connected flight deck and the powerful and flexible communications capabilities of Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) service enabled by the next-gen systems.
