Ehang Test Flight in Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam

The drone came a few meters high and went under more of the corner flag to the Centre spot and back. It is the first flight of its kind in Europe. The drone is the 216 Ehang, made in China.

“We want to show that the digital transformation is near, even at transport. Drones are more than just flying cameras that image shooting. They can become so large that they can transport people. This drone can lift 210 kilograms, “says Jacob size of provider KPN.

The drone is built for people, including cockpit, but with the trial from Monday if there is no one in it because of the security.The roof of the stadium also had to close so it could not escape.

Organ Donors

The Ehang is operated via the 4G network of KPN in the stadium. Drones can reduce pollution in cities.

Groote: “If we drive bicycles or cars, we only use the flat earth, we can also take to the air, which takes the pressure off the roads, we have planes for long distances, but for short flights we do not have anything yet.”

Drones can be taxis or deliver parcels, but there are more practical applications. Groote mentions the transport of donor organs as an example.

“If you have to bring an AMC hospital to the OLVG in Amsterdam and the A10 motorway  is jammed, you too late. The air goes faster. That is already being worked on in China. ”
