Spain has contracted two more General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc (GA-ASI) MQ-9 Reaper Block 5 medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to add to the two already ordered in 2017.
The US Department of Defense (DoD) announced a USD34.3 million contract to GA-ASI on 28 March for the Foreign Military Sale (FMS) procurement of the two UAVs and associated equipment by 31 March 2020. The two UAVs ordered in 2017 are due to be delivered in the coming weeks.
Once in service, the Reapers will conduct intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The Block 5 Reaper that Spain is to receive is fitted with a Raytheon AN/ALR-69A radar warning receiver (RWR) and an electronic warfare (EW) suite can also fitted to an underwing pylon.
