Checks on the facades of older buildings will be required once every seven years from January 2022. The aim is for building owners to detect and address any deterioration in a timely manner.
The Building and Construction Authority has developed guidelines on the use of drones to carry out these inspections, including protecting residents’ privacy and preventing unauthorised access and use of the footage. The Periodic Facade Inspection regime will apply to buildings that are more than 20 years old and at least 13m high.
Around 30,000 buildings will be checked within the next seven years.
