Advanced Protection Systems (APS), a Polish counter-drone technology company, has developed a new autonomous interceptor drone designed to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles through direct collision.
This new and cost-effective solution adds to APS’s growing portfolio of anti-drone tools, which are already being used to protect Ukraine’s skies from Russian UAVs.
The interceptor drone is part of the company’s SKYctrl anti-drone system, which integrates FIELDctrl radars, neutralization tools (effectors), and CyView C2 command and control software. Using advanced machine learning algorithms, SKYctrl can distinguish between drones and non-threatening objects, such as birds, while providing real-time threat detection and reporting.
“The widespread use of combat drones in the Ukraine war inspired us to create innovative solutions like the interceptor drone,” said Maciej Klemm, co-founder and CEO of APS. “The interceptors use machine learning to work with a high level of autonomy, relieving the burden on human operators.”
APS’s interceptor drones are guided by radar systems and advanced video tracking technology, allowing them to autonomously engage and destroy hostile drones. They can operate in groups, communicating with each other to assign targets and neutralize multiple UAVs simultaneously. Unlike conventional anti-drone weapons, the interceptor drone carries no explosives, offering a versatile solution for both military and civilian applications.

APS’s SKYctrl system is currently deployed in Ukraine, where it has proven its effectiveness in countering drones used by Russian forces. The system is also in use worldwide, protecting critical infrastructure sites such as power plants, refineries, and telecommunications networks.
In addition to the interceptor drone, the SKYctrl system incorporates various neutralization tools, including radio frequency jammers and small-caliber cannons. The system’s flexible architecture allows for integration with other defense mechanisms, such as machine guns and laser weapons, tailored to different operational needs.
Beyond the battlefield, APS’s interceptor drone offers a non-explosive option for protecting civilian airspace from intrusive drones, including airports and other sensitive locations. This solution is particularly beneficial for ensuring public safety without disrupting surrounding electronic systems.
APS debuted the interceptor drone at the MSPO defense industry trade show in Kielce, Poland, from September 3-6.
