Poland Orders 52 More FlyEye UAS for $24M

On Friday, November 15, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, in the presence of Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, and Paweł Bejda, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defense, another implementation agreement for 13 FlyEye UAV sets for the Polish Armed Forces was signed.

According to the agreement, deliveries are to be completed in 2024.

The Minister of National Defense reminded that this is yet another purchase from which the funds will go to the domestic arms industry.

“Today we are ordering 52 FlyEye drones in the latest version, which will be delivered by the end of the year. The value of the contract is approximately PLN 100 million. This is a significant step in equipping the Polish Army. FlyEye drones are useful in both military and non-military operations. They are used by all types of armed forces, including operational and territorial defense forces. This is universal equipment, the achievements of which are used by everyone. I am glad that this investment also supports the Polish arms industry.

Together with Minister Bejda, we are implementing the 50/50 rule, which we introduced during the opposition. It assumes that half of the expenditure on military equipment goes to Polish companies, both public and private, producing in Poland, and the other half comes from abroad. Today, we are implementing this in cooperation with, among others, WB Electronics, which supplies the highest quality equipment.”

– emphasized the head of the Ministry of National Defense.

“The operational capabilities of the Polish Army and further purchases are an absolute priority in the process of transformation of the Polish Armed Forces. I am very pleased that we are investing in technologies of the future, which already play a key role on the battlefield. One such example are unmanned systems, including the latest purchase – the FlyEye system. These drones are primarily used for reconnaissance and are already one of the key elements of the equipment of the Polish army.

Let me remind you that we have signed a framework agreement for the purchase of 400 sets, and its implementation is taking place in stages. Why in stages? We are not signing one implementation agreement, because manufacturers are constantly developing their technologies, and we want to buy the most modern equipment available on the market “

– emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during the signing of the agreement for the supply of FlyeEye UAVs.

The FlyEye mini-class UAVs are designed to conduct image reconnaissance from the air using optoelectronic heads equipped with cameras that enable image recording, both in daylight and using thermal imaging. The system has been successfully tested in the Polish Army, where it performs tasks for both the Operational Forces and the Territorial Defense Forces, as well as during military operations in Ukraine.

Referring to the purchases of military equipment in the Polish arms industry, Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda said:

“There will still be a significant amount – a large sum of money that will remain in the Polish arms industry. I will give one example: accompanying vehicles for K9 gun-howitzers. The value of the contract will be over PLN 7 billion and we expect to sign it by the end of the year, which will additionally support the domestic arms industry. By the end of the year, we plan to sign about 40 contracts, including both smaller and larger ones.”
