The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) and the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE) have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation to facilitate exchange of technical and programme information between the two organisations.
EUROCAE will better align its strategic work programme to fit the standardisation needs of the Single European Sky. EUROCAE Working Groups will in return be better supported by additional SESAR information and involvement from JU partners. EUROCAE will also benefit from information coming from SESAR validation activities when needed in the life cycle of EUROCAE Documents (EDs) and EUROCAE Technical Specifications toward the development of Community Specification and European Norms. As a consequence this agreement brings significant benefit, helping to accelerate the development of EUROCAE standardisation material and technical specifications relevant to the Single European Sky.
Patrick Ky, Executive Director of the SESAR JU said at the signing ceremony that a vital element of the SESAR programme was to develop interoperable solutions for the global aviation community. Cooperation with standardization bodies was vital step to reach this goal.
According to Abdoulaye N’Diaye, the New Secretary General of EUROCAE, this Memorandum of Cooperation is a major milestone towards a better alignment of EUROCAE activities with the Single European Sky objectives and timeline, a larger involvement of the aviation industry to SESAR and its future deployment and contributions to ICAO global ATM modernisation initiative.
The SESAR programme is the operational and technological answer to the major challenges of European air traffic growth. The aim of the SESAR Joint Undertaking is to ensure the modernisation of the European air traffic management system by coordinating and concentrating all relevant research and development efforts in the European Union. Partnership, sustainability and user-drive are key concepts of the SESAR Joint Undertaking approach. Founded by the European Union and by Eurocontrol, fifteen companies are members of the SESAR JU: AENA, Airbus, Alenia Aeronautica, the DFS, the DSNA, ENAV, Frequentis, Honeywell, Indra, NATMIG, NATS (En Route) Limited, NORACON, SEAC, SELEX Sistemi Integrati and Thales.
The European Organisation for Civil Aviation (EUROCAE) is an organisation dedicated to aviation standardisation in Europe and in the world for nearly 50 years. EUROCAE is a well-established standardisation body recognized globally by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) which references EUROCAE Documents (ED) and by the European Union as the technical body for the development of Community Specifications (CS) under the Single European Sky framework (Regulation EC 552/2004).
