Northrop Grumman has committed to be an anchor tenant at an enhanced use leasing project focused on unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) technology and training at Grand Forks Air Force Base that a partnership composed of multiple groups is working toward.
The company would join the Grand Forks Base Realignment Impact Committee, University of North Dakota (UND), UND Aerospace Foundation and Northland Aerospace Foundation to lease space at the installation in northeastern North Dakota from the Air Force, according to a press release from Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.).
“Grand Forks is already the premier northern hub for UAS technology and training, and this new project could form the nucleus of a dynamic new technology complex within it,” Hoeven said.
The UAS technology park would support the base’s UAS activities, which are conducted by the Air Force, the North Dakota Air National Guard and the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection. Northrop Grumman, which has an office in Grand Forks, manufactures the RQ-4 Global Hawk reconnaissance aircraft system, which is flown from the base.
