  1. Agree that there are numerous entities rambling down the path of potential applications for the unmanned systems industry. Some zany, some almost science fiction in nature, some serious and some not so much. The Bezos interview captured the attention of many as the number of blogs, internet postings, press articles etc…attest to.

I wonder what folks thought about the following technologies during their infancy:
    – the plow
    – the wheel
    – the printing press
    – refrigeration
    – the telephone
    – the internal combustion engine
    – the computer
    – the internet
    – the nail
    – the compass
    – disease eradication
    – precision agriculture
    – autonomous systems
    – artificial intelligence

The list goes on and on. I wonder if folks wondered if those working on these fundamentally transformative “technologies” thought that they were serious or just passing fancy. In thinking about the interview with Jeff Bezos, it seams that many have fixated on the platform rather than the transformative nature of the technology. In this case, the platform (an unmanned system) is merely a technological approach to providing a service. If we capture the true essence of the potential applications, then the tools themselves will unfold in truly beneficial ways. Some merely as modifications to existing technologies, some yet unknown.

  2. Amazon one day now UPS and Google. Unmanned systems and robotics applications are proving to be an interesting catalyst to embrace and explore potential opportunities in our future. Challenges undoubtedly exists with all of this but will be interesting to see where we are in 30-40 years.
