Israel carried out an air strike in eastern Lebanon targeting adrone belonging to the Jewish state that crashed in the area, a security source told AFP.
“An Israeli air strike was launched this morning to destroy one of their drones that crashed in the mountains outside Saghbine yesterday,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Images published by Lebanese media purported to show the remains of the drone that was targeted, including what looked to be a wing and twisted pieces of metal.
The Israeli army had no comment on the claims.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency said Lebanese armed forces were investigating at the site of the incident.
Israel occupied parts of Lebanon for 22 years until 2000 and the two countries are still technically at war.
The Jewish state fought a bloody war with Lebanon’s Shiite militia Hezbollah in 2006 that killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and some 160 Israelis, most of them soldiers.
Israeli warplanes and drones regularly enter Lebanese airspace.
