3W International has now expanded its site by another engine group in addition to the previous heavy fuel engines (HFE). The German engine manufacturer is introducing part of its comprehensive 2-stroke gas engine programme on the company’s reworked web site.
Detailed information about options for individualising the engines and the company’s activities are moreover being introduced.
“In recent years we’ve developed and manufactured over 100 engines as standard engines and customer-specific solutions. That means we have an engine in the program for every customer application. We’ve now expanded our web site to include the top models from the area of gas engines”, explains Karsten Schudt, managing director of 3W International GmbH. The web site now encompasses more than 30 engines from 3 HP to over 60 HP, which can be used with extreme flexibility.
The HF engines in particular exhibit this feature. “We basically have to speak here about multi-fuel engines, because these engines can be driven with JET A-I, JP-5, JP-8, and ordinary 2-cycle mixture without the engine having to be cleaned out”, explains Schudt. Flexible use right in sensitive areas is thus guaranteed. Besides this flexibility the engines can be adapted to the application areas with additional options.
So it should be emphasised that both the HF engines and the gas engines are available in a multitude of variations. Both engines can thus be equipped with double spark plugs. All engines beginning at 55 ccm can be delivered as a twin-spark (TS) version. Both ignitions work independently of one another here. This enables the engine to run at a slower idle whereby general running behaviour is quieter. Using the TS cylinder increases safety and reliability, because if one ignition fails the second ignition working independently ensures that the engine continues running with slightly decreased rotational speed.
The installation of fuel injection is also possible in gas engines. All engines can be provided with both carburettor and alternatively with electronic injection.
Fuel consumption can be reduced due to more exact consideration of all of the operating parameters. Power density can be increased through better mixture treatment and the engine’s regulation can be better controlled at various engine powers. This is especially true during warm-up.
Ensuring that the gas supply system functions independently of position is particularly important when using piston engines in aircraft in order to be able to call upon the engine’s full power during movements about the longitudinal or transverse axis. This function can be guaranteed precisely through the use of a fuel injector.
Moreover all gas engines can be delivered as Competition Series (CS). Here the engines are optimized for performance enhancement. The cylinders are modified and suitably reworked in the crankcase. Individual cylinders’ compression is adjusted in multiple-cylinder engines. Compression in particular is increased whereby the engine’s torque and power are increased. Throttle response also improves in the lower rotational speed range. The CS’s cylinders are painted with a highly temperature-resistant, metallic-orange 2K engine paint applied in two coats.
“We’re convinced that we can always keep the right engine solution ready for our customers. All of the engines can be used as tractor or pusher engines besides the options mentioned. This is not insignificant in today’s applications. Customers can reckon with a running time before overhauling of about 500 hours for our engines depending on application and area of use. This plays a decisive role precisely in sensitive and commercial applications. Long-lived engines guarantee long operating times”, summarizes Schudt.
With more than 30 years of experience in designing, manufacturing and testing 2-stroke engines, 3W International has developed and patented the newest generation of Heavy Fuel (HF) engines for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) industry.
The quality of 3W engines consists of several factors. Technical expertise, long-term experience, tradition and state-of-the-art production are the reasons for one of the highest qualities in the industry. 3W disclaims manufacturing abroad so customers can be sure every engine is German quality.
From R&D, prototyping, purchasing, manufacturing, and calibration to on-time delivery, 3W guarantees constant, permanent quality control. Every manufacturing step is traceable. The employees are personally responsible for fulfilling 3W-quality standards. Component suppliers and partners share those standards and guarantee these quality requirements.
