ICAO’s NAM/CAR/SAM Civil/Military Cooperation Seminar & Workshop – Lima, Peru

The ICAO NAM/CAR/SAM Civil/Military Cooperation Seminar/Workshop starts today at the premises of the ICAO SAM Regional Office in Lima, Peru and will continue up to 19 August 2011.

This seminar/workshop is being convened by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in partnership with the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and the Department of Defence (DoD) of the United States, the Germany Ministry of Transport, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and UVS International (UVSI).

This seminar/workshop is a Special Implementation Project (SIP) for the CAR/SAM Regions, in conjunction with Regional Project RLA/06/901, and is also part of a worldwide campaign of regional civil/military cooperation events recommended by the Global Air Traffic Management Forum on Civil/Military Cooperation (Montreal, October 2009), endorsed by the 37th Assembly (October 2010), which formulated Resolution A37-15, Appendix 0: Coordination and Cooperation of Civil/Military Air Traffic.

The seminar/workshop will consist of two days of a high-level seminar and two days of workshop, with the following objectives:

a) build on the Global Forum outcome;

b) rollout Circular 330/AN Civil/Military Cooperation in Air Traffic Management;

c) optimise the use of airspace;

d) improve civil/military cooperation and coordination;

e) share information between civil/military authorities; and

f) analyse the impact of modernization efforts by States.

The audience will be a broad mix of civil and military authorities, air navigation service providers (ANSPs), ATM civil/military airspace managers, airline operators, and general aviation users.

The seminar/workshop will consist of interactive, theoretical and practical presentations and panel discussions in the high-level seminar. Workshop sessions will consist of activities for the implementation of civil/military cooperation guidance material, with practical exercises tailored to regional settings/examples of fundamentals on good communications, optimization of the use of airspace with simulated scenarios, initiatives to improve civil/military cooperation, coordination and interoperability.
