No German Decision on Heron Replacement before 2012

Germany will decide next year which unmanned aircraft to purchase for its Bundeswehr military forces, a senior defence source told Reuters. This would suggest that it is refusing to bow to pressure from EADS for a quick decision to order its Talarion. The source said that the Bundeswehr would continue leasing Herons until 2014. It could decide to order the EADS Talarion, but could also opt for another model already available on the market and with a proven track record, the source added.

Last week, we reported that EADS was prepared to offer to waive any rights to damages from cuts to Eurofighter jet orders if some countries buy Talarion and sign maintenance deals.
