has announced a significant addition to its data security compliance with a SOC 2 Type II Certification.
As drones evolve from manual offline tools to autonomous online components of critical workflows, data security has become an increasingly common point of emphasis for government and enterprise drone programs.
What does SOC 2 Type II mean?
A SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls) Type II report is an internal audit into how companies store and manage customer data based on standards set forth by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Skydio’s audit was conducted by Geels Norton LLC.
In order to receive the certification, Geels Norton rigorously examined Skydio’s security processes including: access controls & reviews, software development, network and platform monitoring, vendor risk management, security & compliance monitoring, and more.
“Issuance of Skydio’s SOC 2 Type II report further demonstrates their commitment to implementing and operating an internal control environment focused on protecting the security and privacy of customer information within the Skydio Cloud platform”,
said Nick Norton, Co-founder of Geels Norton.
Why is it important to be SOC 2 Type II Certified?
Organizations worldwide are increasingly using drones to capture and store sensitive data, creating growing concerns over the security and privacy of that data. SOC 2 compliance provides additional assurance of Skydio’s infrastructure, tools, and processes to protect customer data and the interests of organizations who utilize our services.
For program managers and IT personnel alike, certified data security means one less administrative issue to worry about when setting up and operating a drone program.
“Security concerns are top of mind for many of our largest professional fleets – with SOC 2 Type II compliance, we are excited to help our customers grow their fleets with more confidence and less paperwork”,
said Jeff Horne, Skydio’s Head of Security.
