Uphill Fight for UAV Spectrum
The United States and Germany, backed by several large commercial satellite fleet operators, are fighting an uphill battle to persuade global governments to allocate Ku- or Ka-band satellite spectrum for the command and control of unmanned aerial vehicles on transoceanic or trans-continental routes.
Gray Eagle Conducts Manned-Unmanned Teaming In South Korea
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. announced that a U.S. Army Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) recently conducted manned-unmanned teaming exercises in South Korean. Exercise support was conducted in August 2015 from Kunsan Air Base, South Korea. Continue reading
Rockwell Collins Delivers Secure Real Time Video from UAS to Military Helicopters
Rockwell Collins has delivered its Secure Real Time Video (SRTV) solution to the U.S. Army to support its Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) operations. The solution allows real-time video from an unmanned aircraft to stream directly to the cockpit of a warfighter flying a military helicopter. The open architecture approach to cockpit avionics systems allows the solution to be quickly installed on other helicopter platforms across the military services. Continue reading

FALCON – Internet for the Battlespace
The BAE Systems designed Falcon system gives the British Army and Royal Air Force a real advantage in the digital age. Falcon is a fully deployable, tactical communications system with an impressive ability to interface with a wide range of other systems. This means that voice, data and video information can now be shared securely across the battlespace using one common system. Continue reading
China Sets Standard Frequency Ranges for UAS
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has set standard frequency ranges for handling unmanned aircraft systems. Continue reading
Single Data Link for Video and Command and Control
A large portion of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) utilise two different data links during mission execution. One data link typically provides the Command and Control (C2) interface and the second provides the video downlink for the onboard payload. Brock Technologies, Inc. has eliminated the need to have two separate data links with the announcement of their latest product, the BTECH NANO Digital Data Link (DDL).
